Wyoming Game and Fish has published no breeding dates for its whitetail. It sets the southeast whitetail seasons to give hunters the rut, and at Devils Tower in the Black Hills the National Park Service says the whitetail rut peaks in November. The windows below are our estimate inside that month.

Wyoming Game and Fish has not published breeding or conception dates for its whitetail, and we found no Wyoming study that measured them. Its biologist handbook puts whitetail fawning at about June 1 to 10, and its 2019 forecast said the southeast whitetail seasons are designed to give hunters the rut. At Devils Tower in the Black Hills, the National Park Service says the whitetail rut peaks in November.
So the windows on this page are our estimate, set inside that November peak. The peak days and the few days of difference between regions are ours, not the department’s.

Wyoming sets seasons by hunt area, and these are the 2026 dates in its main whitetail country:
Every window on this page falls after archery closes, inside the regular seasons. The Black Hills season covers that card except its last four days. Areas 15, 17, 23 and 24 stay open for any whitetail through November 30, past the end of the Powder River and eastern cards, but areas 18 and 19 close November 15, mid-window.

Wyoming Game and Fish’s survey-based estimate puts the 2025 deer harvest at about 27,000: about 16,700 mule deer and 10,300 whitetail. Just under 5,700 of the whitetail were bucks. Whitetail harvest is down from about 17,600 in 2016, and the department reports EHD die-offs in 2021 and 2022 and again in 2025.
The Powder River herd gave up the most whitetail, about 3,300, and the Black Hills about 2,400, just over 2,100 of them bucks.

Nearly half of Wyoming is federal land, and the state owns about another 6 percent. But the department says most whitetail in central and eastern Wyoming, and in the Sheridan Region, live on private land. The Black Hills are the exception, with moderate success expected in 2026, particularly on public land.
Access Yes Walk-In Areas open over 700,000 private and state acres with no permission slip, and 48 Wildlife Habitat Management Areas add over half a million acres, nearly all open to hunting.

The calendar says when the rut runs in Wyoming. Whether your next sit is worth your best spot comes down to the ground you hunt and what you've seen on it, and that is the call RackIQ makes: The Scored Call™, checked afterward. The more hunts you log, the sharper it gets.
